Plastic Bag American Beauty

Plastic Bag Scene in American BeautyThis a classic scene from the movie American Beauty starring Kevin Spacey. Not everybody “gets” this scene.  Personally, I find this scene captivating. I believe that in order to comprehend this scene one must have been in the same situation. In a situation where the smallest thing surprises you, and in that moment you just observe, like a child, completely present, without judgement, completely open and vulnerable.

Emotions displayed in this scene are love and fear.

I tagged this scene with the tag fear, but the scene does not displays fear itself. Fear, or the lack of it, is discussed between Ricky (Wes Bentley) and his soon to be girlfriend Jane (Thora Birch). Ricky, as he put it, believes that there is “this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know that there is no reason to be afraid, ever”.  So, what is this force? Can it be God? Can it be Love? I leave that answer to you.

personally, I find this scene captivating.

There are other emotions displayed in this scene, as I believe one is Love, when Ricky says that “sometimes there is so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can’t take it, and my heart is just going to cave in. Of course, for those who still do net get this scene, there is also the American Beauty Plastic Bag “Cat Shark Edition” …..

do you get my point???
